We are a Community Interest Company. This means we are registered at Companies House
as a not-for-profit organisation and we have committed ourselves to working “in the best
interests of the community”.
The company has two directors; Melanie Rees, a former Special Needs Headteacher and local businessman Tony Nisbett.
About Mel
I am the Creative Director and will lead the day-to-day operation of The Green Centre.
I have 20 years experience in setting up and developing projects. In 1989, while working as
a teacher, I set up
National Non-Uniform Day. This was supported by UNICEF and became its most successful
school fund-raising event, raising millions of pounds for overseas aid. 2009 is the 20th anniversary of this
scheme. In 1997, I founded
Cornerstones Independent School, a school that provides education for children with
emotional and behavioural problems. The school received registration from the Department for Education and Skills,
and passed two OFSTED inspections.
About Tony
I am the Commercial Director and will oversee the commercial aspects of The Green Centre. Having spent the last
10 years helping others create business out of their good ideas, I am looking forward to helping to establish The
Green Centre as a useful tool for the members of our community.
Having initially trained as an accountant, I was drawn into the arena of using technology to develop
business ideas. I have spent many years helping to develop the paperless society and much of my
time is spent on consulting in e-business and related matters in the EU. Recent start-ups include an
on-line shop for natural health remedies and an on-line business to help individuals to interpret their
personal and cultural values so that they can develop their opportunities at work.
