Introduction to Photovoltaics |

This course takes place at Stanmer Park between 9 and 5.30pm.
Learn how to make a basic off-grid solar electric energy system for domestic and other similar purposes.
The course will cover the basics of photovoltaics, from system design and load calculation through to the various types of solar panels, batteries and inverters and their suitability in different situations. The afternoon will be spent setting up a small photovoltaic system and will include a tour of the award winning Earthship Brighton.
The day is aimed at those who wish to get a broad introduction to renewable energy technologies, as well as those wishing to install an off grid photovoltaic energy systems.

Introduction to Permaculture |

This course will run over 2 days, Wednesday 13th October and Thursday 14th October 2010 from 9.30am to 5pm. The course will introduce the basics of permaculture design and show how this approach can be applied.The first day will be at Stanmer Park.The second day will either be at Stanmer Park or another location within 15 miles of Brighton, travel and lift sharing will be arranged on the first day.
The course will be led by Pippa Johns, a permaculture teacher and designer who runs Edible Gardens plant nursery and design consultancy. She will be assisted by various other teachers.
The course is open to anyone over the age of 16. No prior knowledge of permaculture is needed.
This course will offer information about, and some hands-on experience of, the basics of permaculture design; designing for sustainability in all walks of life. Whether your interest is gardening, farming, planning, building homes, community work, economic regeneration, business or green lifestyles, the application of Permaculture principles empowers you to make a positive contribution towards a sustainable future. The course will enable you to apply permaculture principles in your individual circumstance to help move towards sustainability.
