National Vegetarian Week

National Vegetarian Week is the UK's annual awareness-raising campaign promoting inspirational vegetarian food and the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle.

Created by the Vegetarian Society and celebrated since 1992, the Week gives organisations, schools, community groups and individuals the free promotional tools and inspiration to give vegetarianism a go while highlighting their activities to the public through the popular What's Happening page.

10:10 Tuesday

10:10 Tuesday, inspired by the national 10:10 campaign, encourages you to follow your natural body clock and make sure you are tucked up in bed by 10pm - not watching the portable in the bedroom, not listening to the radio and not even reading. Close your eyes and z z z z z!

Not only will you be saving energy and reducing your carbon emissions by retiring early and shutting everything off for the night, you will also be healthier.

Our immune system functions optimally if we go to sleep by 10 p.m. As we sleep, physical repair takes place between approximately 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.: Our immune cells patrol our bodies, eliminating cancer cells, bacteria, viruses, and other harmful agents.

So, try it. On a Tuesday. You never know you might find it so enjoyable you find your immune system begging for more.

This is a regular weekly event - next three dates are: 28/05/2013, 04/06/2013, 11/06/2013

Meat Free Monday

Meat Free Monday invites you to abstain from eating meat on a Monday as eating less meat is good for the planet.

UN's top climate scientist Rajendra Pachauri states that, "People should consider eating less meat as a way of combating global warming. UN figures suggest that meat production puts more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than transport."

If your'e not keen on vegetables why don't you make a commitment to supporting this campaign by experimenting with a new veggie dish each week. Grab a veggie cook book from a charity shop and give it a whirl.

This is a regular weekly event - next three dates are: 27/05/2013, 03/06/2013, 10/06/2013

Slow Sunday

Slow Sunday, a monthly initiative inspired by Resurgence, encourages you to take part in simple actions that symbolise a rejection of commercialism, a passion for the planet and a desire for change.

We invite you to adopt it EVERY Sunday! There was a time when shops were closed on a Sunday and so without this distraction people naturally adopted other activities.

A typical Sunday would begin with a lie in, a late breakfast followed by a country stroll in preparation for a roast dinner, an afternoon movie, a light tea, bags packed for Monday and an early night. Ah those were the days . . .

This is a regular weekly event - next three dates are: 26/05/2013, 02/06/2013, 09/06/2013
