Green Centre Bee Garden

Community Bee Garden to be!

The Honey Bee is in decline throughout the world. The dear bees who kindly pollinate 40% of our food are struggling against pesticides, mites, compromised immune systems and general malaise.

Professor Ratnieks, a leading authority on bees is completing a research project at Sussex University. One thing he has so far discovered is that despite bees pollinating our food we have been less than generous keeping them well fed.

We know that it is important to have bee friendly flowers in your garden and thanks to the Professor and his team we also know that we are particularly short of bee friendly flowers which bloom in August.

We experimented with our own little garden at the Green Centre planting lavender, a firm favourite and providing shelter and water for the bees. Last year there were frequent visitors to our small garden.

We are most grateful to Brighton & Hove Council who have given us permission to replicate our Bee Garden on a traffic island on Manor Hill on East Brighton.

This is a community led project and we invite you to be part of the planning of this project. If you are interested please contact Mel on 01273 687700.
