The aim of The Green A - Z is to provide the city of Brighton & Hove with a comprehensive guide to all reduce / re-use / recycle opportunities in the city. The original idea for this resource came from a member of the local community back in May 2006. Since that time we have added to this resource at the request of the public. We wish to keep adding to this resource but need your help.
With this in mind we are developing The Green Task Force. This will consist of members of the public carrying out research tasks which take very little time and can easily be incorporated in your everyday routine.
Currently The Green Task Force are researching the following tasks;
1. We are researching all chemists in Brighton & Hove to see which ones recycle hearing aids and / or hearing aid batteries. Please ask your nearest chemist if they offer this service and let us know how you get on by contacting Melanie Rees.
2. We are researching all supermarkets in Brighton & Hove to see which ones offer a recycling facility for Brita filters. Please check next time you visit your supermarket to see if they offer this service and let us know how you get on by contacting Melanie Rees.
3. We are researching all Sainsbury’s outlets in Brighton & Hove to see which ones are offering FREEPOST bags to recycle batteries. Please ask at customer services next time you are in Sainsbury’s to see if they offer this service and let us know how you get on by contacting Melanie Rees.
4. We are looking for all outlets in Brighton & Hove to see which ones offer a refill service for Ecover products. If you know of any please let us know how you get on by contacting Melanie Rees. We need to know where the outlet is and how much the product costs.
Many thanks for your time and energy.
The aim of this project is to work with the traders on George Street in Hove with a view to improving their environmental profile. We have identified 5 areas of interest;
1. Energy usage after close of business
2. Overall Energy Review
3. Waste
4. Procurement
5. Nature of Business
We are deeply grateful to Michelle Salisbury and Emily Walker of the YMCA charity shop at 26 George St. who are working in collaboration with us to run our first trial of this scheme. We have completed the first full environmental audit and are currently working on the final report before offering this service to other businesses.
Of the 91 businesses on George Street, 25 already have no lights on after close of business. That is 27%. We would like to improve this fugure and would welcome more businesses adding themselves to the list.
