Batteries - Household

Yes household batteries can be recycled. Other types of battery can also be recycled. Please see Car Batteries and Watch Batteries.

RECYCLED
Where?

  • Every supermarket that sells batteries has a recycling facility in store.
  • Please take them to the Brighton Household Waste & Recycling site on Wilson Avenue or the Hove Household Waste & Recycling site on the Old Shoreham Road. See here for exact locations and opening times. For more details contact City Clean on 01273 292929.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • It is estimated that we throw away over 600m batteries in the UK each year.
  • Only 27% of batteries are recycled in the UK, resulting in more than 20,000 tonnes of battery waste straight to the landfill.
  • In the first instance please consider using rechargeable batteries. They are a viable environmental alternative to disposable batteries as they can be recharged up to 1,000 times and are much more powerful.  The USBCELL battery can be used in normal battery applications and can be recharged simply by plugging it into a USB port.
  • For other information regarding ecological batteries visit the Uniross webpage.
