Some lids can be included in Brighton and Hove Council Recycling including both your kerbside and communal bins. Please read the instructions below very carefully as there are different instructions for different lids.
Milk bottle tops must be removed fromm the bottle and PUT INSIDE the bottle once washed. The reason it is put inside is because the thread of the plastic milk bottle is not very strong and when baled the lids will simply fly off.
Other bottle tops must be placed BACK ON the bottle once the bottle has been washed.
Tops from Tetra Paks can also be placed BACK ON once the Tetra Pak has been washed and squashed but these must be recycled in dedicated Tetra Pak bins throughout Brighton & Hove.
DID YOU KNOW?
It is estimated that an average of 35.8 million plastic bottles are used EVERY DAY in the UK, but only 19.8 million are recycled each day. This means there are on average 16 million plastic bottles a day are not being recycled.
8 million tonnes of the world’s plastics end up in our oceans each year, creating a garbage patch three times the size of France. Plastics from items such as carrier bags and bottles that end up in our oceans kill around 1,000,000 sea creatures every year.
Many types of plastics are recyclable but it takes up to 500 years for plastic to fully decompose.
