Cooking Oil

Yes cooking oil can be recycled.

Used cooking oil must not be disposed of via the drainage system as it can lead to blockages.

RECYCLE 
Where?

  • Please take them to the Brighton Household Waste & Recycling site on Wilson Avenue or the Hove Household Waste & Recycling site on the Old Shoreham Road. See here for exact locations and opening times. For more details contact City Clean on 01273 292929.
  • If you are unable to get to the Waste & Recycling sites then please bring to the Green Centre at Brighton Open Market. More details here. [Please bring your oil in a screw top plastic bottle no larger than 2 litres. We are not able to accept glass bottles or flip top lids.]

How?

  • If taking to the Household Waste & Recycling site please put it in a sealed leak-proof container and place it on the oil deposit table.
  • Do not worry about small particles of food matter left in the oil - this will be sieved out. DO NOT INCLUDE oil contaminated with animal fat.
  • The following oils can be accepted;
    • maize
    • olive
    • palm
    • rapeseed
    • soya
    • sunflower
    • safflower
    • sesame
    • almond
    • coconut
    • groundnut
    • peanut
    • walnut oil
