Knives

Yes knives can be reused and recycled.

REUSE
Knives come in many different shapes and sizes. Here's what you can do to reuse them.  

  • Cutlery - knives which form part of a cutlery set can be reused by donating them to a charity shop.
  • Kitchen - sharp knives used for cutting and chopping can be sharpened in order to extend their lives.

RECYCLED
If your knife is broken and no longer able to be used, e.g. e.g broken handle or broken blade, then it can be recycled.

  • The Green Centre at Brighton Open Market. Please include in the scrap metal collection. Please include More details here.

How?

  • If it is a sharp kitchen knife used for cutting or chopping please hand it directly to staff . . . carefully.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Most kitchen knives are made from stainless steel. It's tough, rust-resistant, and has an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. 
  • Stainless steel is 100% recyclable. The primary alloy elements of stainless steel, which include chromium, nickel, and molybdenum (which give it that shiny finish) are all extremely valuable and can be recovered easily when recycling stainless steel.
