Plastic - Brighton & Hove Council

Yes you can recycle some plastic with Brighton & Hove City Council. 

RECYCLE
Where?

  • Brighton and Hove City Council kerbside recycling, communal bins, Brighton Household Waste & Recycling site on Wilson Avenue or the Hove Household Waste & Recycling site on the Old Shoreham Road. See here for exact locations and opening times. For more details contact City Clean on 01273 292929.

How?

  • The council accepts PLASTIC BOTTLES and from JUNE 30th will also accept pots, tubs and trays. Please do not include these before June 30th. See below for how to prepare them and avoid contamination;
     
    • Milk bottles;  Wash. Squash. Place the lid INSIDE.This is because when baled the plastic milk bottle tops pop off easily.
    • All other bottles: Wash. Squash. Return the lid and screw ON tightly.
    • Pots, tubs and trays: wash with washing up water and rinse. All food must be removed. Must be clean. See the list below for a description of what can be inlcuded in each category.
    • Plastic pots used for

      • Yoghurt
      • Prepared fruit
      • Mini desserts
      • Soup   
      • Cosmetics

      Plastic tubs for

      • Margarine
      • Chocolate
      • Pasta sauces
      • Ice-cream
      • Baked goods such as bite-sized flapjacks
      • Laundry powder 

      Plastic trays or bowls

      • Meat and fish trays
      • Ready meal bowls or trays
      • Snack and salad containers
      • Fruit punnets
      • Fresh or prepared vegetable containers
      • Containers for cakes and pastries
      • Trays inside boxes of chocolates
